Project:  Using the Senses
Using the six senses (the five plus emotions), each student will develop a first draft of a story, focusing on setting, character and conflict.  Carmen is available to work with Spanish language projects as well.




Carmen Bernier-Grand has been with Community of Writers five years.  She has published many stories, articles, and books, including Juan Bobo: Four Folktales from Puerto Rico  (HarperCollins, 1994), Poet and Politician from Puerto Rico: Don Luis Muñoz Marin  (Orchard Books, 1996), In the Shade of the Nispero Tree (Orchard Books, 1999), Shake It , Morena (Millbrook Press, 2002), and César:  Si, Se Puede! Yes, We Can!, (Marshall Cavendish, 2004, in Spanish, 2006).  Her most recent book, Frida:  !Viva la  Vida! Long Live Life! was released in February 2007.
