Project: The (W)Right
Brain
In this residency, students will activate the (W)Right Brain to learn to
write with panache and style. A series of sensory and intuitive exercises
will be used to get kids out of a linear track and into a creative,
improvisational mode. Donna will get students excited about
writing! Activities may include: image and metaphor, sensory writing,
personification, voice, nonsense poetry, fun and outrageous stories,
memory writing, "If I Were in Charge" poems, odes, and "The
Animal inside Me."
Donna Prinzmetal has been teaching creative writing and poetry since 1982.
She has taught for Community of Writers, Young Audiences, Portland Public
Schools TAG program, and Literary Arts’ Writers in the Schools
program. She is the winner of two Oregon State Poetry Association prizes.
Her poetry appears in a national anthology called Chance of a
Ghost, and recent publications include The Journal, Cincinnati Review, 88, The Pinch and New Ohio Review. Her book of poetry,
Snow White: When No One Was
Looking, has been a finalist once at Tupelo and twice at Four
Way.
