Many of these scholarships are intended for students with strong academic records and an interest in professional news work. Other scholarships are wider in scope and open to students with broader journalistic interests, such as advertising, public relations, or broadcast. Some are restricted to residents of a specific geographic region. All scholarships, however, are meant to provide recognition of student excellence in academic and journalistic pursuits.
