The Scream

Why do people scream? Fear? Anger? Pain?

What do these emotions look like? Sound like? Feel like? Taste like?

What colors are associated with these emotions?

Looking at Munch's work: Why might this person be screaming? How would his face have looked before he screamed? After? Note that the most obvious facial charges are seen in the eyes and mouth. Discuss details.

Divide a rectangular piece of paper into quadrants. Draw the same face four times, changing it slightly each time to show more and more of the emotion you are trying to express. You may want to enlarge and paint a final version of the last quadrant.

Brainstorm or Carousel: Scared words, angry words, expressions of pain, colors associated with these emotions, senses associated with these emotions. Write about a time when you felt one of these emotions very strongly. How did you get to that place? How did you get out of it? How will you sequence your story? Which picture would you start with? Put the pictures in the order in which you'd like to write the story.
