Color Description1. Students begin by choosing a color, possibly their favorite.2. Students are then asked to make a list of things that are usually the color they chose. (They could also draw pictures of these items.) 3. Students are asked to write one sentence to describe each item. For each sentence, they must focus on one of the five senses in their description. They are encouraged to give a full description and use strong words. 4. Students then choose their favorite five sentences, one for each of the senses. They are encouraged to look for, and avoid, any repetitive language, unless it is there for a reason and works well. * This activity would be followed at a later time by an opportunity to share their sentences aloud in groups of four to five. The purpose of the groups is to give and receive feedback about what has worked well and what can be improved, with a focus on the choice of words used to describe. |
