Descriptive Writing



Materials: Two sheets of white drawing paper per student; color pencils or crayons

Have a detailed paragraph describing an animal.

1. Say to the class, "I have a cat." (Use the example of any animal.)

2. "Draw my cat."

3. After the students have had some time to draw the cat, have them share their pictures with the class so they can see what all the different cats look like.

4. Read your descriptive paragraph to the class.

5. "Now use your second piece of paper and draw my cat. "

6. Have the class share their pictures and discuss the differences between the first and second sets of pictures.

7. "Now you will choose an animal and use your words to show what it looks like so that everyone in the class will be able to see what your animal looks like. "
